Are epoxy garage floors a fit for Southern Utah heat?
Garages here see hot slabs, open-door UV, and hot tires after summer drives. A coating can be a good fit when prep, system choice, and cure conditions match that climate. Suitability depends on the slab and how you use the space — not on a one-line product claim.
Will hot tires peel the floor?
Hot tires can print or peel some coatings, especially after a drive in St. George heat. Prep, the approved system, topcoat, and full cure all matter. We would rather talk through tire habits and shade than pretend heat is not part of the job.
Do flake floors fade in the UV?
Open garage doors get intense sun. Screen colors are samples, not a match guarantee, and we do not promise a floor will never change in UV. Flake systems with a clear topcoat are commonly used in this climate; appearance over time depends on exposure and the approved system.
Is grinding better than acid etching?
Diamond grinding generally gives a stronger mechanical profile and is useful for many coatings. Dust has to be controlled. Etching may suit limited conditions if the approved system allows it, but it does not replace every prep step and may not address old coatings or contamination. Etching is not always enough. The installer chooses prep after inspection.
What about cracks, oil, and moisture?
They are quote items, not surprises we ignore. Cracks and joints can be repaired or honored. Oil has to be cleaned and may need extra prep. Moisture can force a different system or extra mitigation. Photos of problem areas help; a moisture check may be part of inspection.
How long before we can walk or park on it?
Walk-on and vehicle return times depend on the approved system, slab temperature, ventilation, and weather. Southern Utah heat can shorten or complicate that window. We give timing after we know the system and the forecast — not a blanket number that ignores the slab.
What does a typical two-car garage cost?
Estimates are free. Call (435) 773-8856 or upload photos for a starting quote. Square footage, grinding, cracks, oil, old coating, moisture, cove, flake coverage, topcoat, and access all move the number. We do not publish a rate card. Final quote follows inspection or photo review.
How do I pick a flake color?
Pick from physical samples when you can. Phone and monitor colors drift. We can start from a blend name and photos; we will not promise the installed floor matches a screen. Density (how much flake) changes both hide and texture.
Do we have to empty the garage?
Yes in almost every case. Vehicles, cabinets, and storage have to come out so the slab can be prepped wall to wall. Note what cannot move. Moving contents is typically on you unless we arrange it in the quote.
What system do you install?
We quote an approved garage system after seeing the slab — typically a profiled concrete, pigmented base, vinyl flake broadcast where chosen, and a clear topcoat. Exact product names and build-ups are confirmed on the quote. We do not sell a coating as indestructible.
